How to lose weight with tea

lose weight with tea

The humanity invented all sorts of weight loss diets in pursuit of the strict canons of beauty! Slimming women are ready to do almost anything:

  • refuse bread and butter,
  • spend weeks on buckwheat porridge and unsalted rice,
  • take miracle pills.

In fact, there is only one reliable and effective way to lose weight – to spend more calories than you consume. It sounds simple, but it’s hard to implement this rule, since it requires making life changes  on all sides:

  1. review your nutrition,
  2. get into doing sports,
  3. get rid of bad habits.

This is where we come to the topic of our article – how to lose weight with tea. We will tell you why such a simple drink as tea can become our ally in the fight against excess weight, how to choose and brew it, when to drink it and what to have with it.

From the start, we have to tell you straight - in this article, we will discuss the most common traditional Chinese tea varieties, like:

  • Pu-erh tea,
  • Green tea,
  • White tea,
  • Oolong tea.

We will not recommend special slimming teas, which are sold in pharmacies and through questionable websites on the Internet. We recommend not to believe the loud promises and not to chase a quick result, but to enjoy life and gradually bring your figure in order, sipping flavorsome, aromatic and completely natural tea.

So, what kind of tea will help you lose weight without side effects and with benefit to the body? The answer is obvious – the one that is consumed in its homeland, in China for over three thousand years. A small dive in the history of tea, leaves no doubt that such tea was always Pu-erh.

From times immemorial, people collected leaves of tea trees, processed them in a certain way and pressed tightly for storage. So far, nothing has changed in the production of Pu-erh:

  • the same leaves of tea trees,
  • the same processing,
  • the same pressing.

For a long time, other types of tea simply did not exist, so the basic information about the benefits of tea is related to Pu-erh, and namely Sheng Pu-erh (green or raw), since Shou Pu-erh (black or aged) was invented only recently – in 1972.

Sheng Pu-erh was the main medicine in China. It was used for:

  • colds,
  • inflammations,
  • headaches,
  • stomach issues,
  • liver and spleen disorders,
  • strengthening memory,
  • cheering up before a responsible task.

People did not care then about losing weight – they had other problems – but the property of tea to facilitate digestion and remove poisoning substances from the body was noticed long time ago.

Shou Pu-erh (black, accelerated fermentation) does have the properties of Sheng, but to a lesser extent, as it passes through more processing stages. It is less active, yet this results in a more careful and mild effect over the stomach and intestines. People who enjoy “simple black tea” will enjoy the flavor of Shou Pu-erh. It is a great option to begin your acquaintance with the world of Pu-erh teas. The main thing is to choose a good product and brew it correctly.

Other types of tea, green, white, oolong and black (or red, according to the Chinese classification) are undoubtedly also useful for weight loss, and you should not refuse them. They are fine drinks with a bright flavor and aroma. Unfortunately, though, they are only good when fresh.

A year after collection (white tea – after a few months) they lose most of their properties.

Black tea from Indian and Kenyan plantations is roasted and good only as an accompaniment to pies. It is worthless to expect any weight loss effect from such tea varieties. If you have the opportunity to buy fresh high-quality tea, your chances for a slim figure increase, yet you should not put hopes on granulated, packaged and flavored tea from the supermarket.

The ability of the Pu-erh tea to reduce excess weight was first scientifically proved by the French organization ARMA. In 1990, a large international study was held on obese patients. For 3 months, they drank Pu-erh three times a day and eventually dropped 4 to 10 kg.

Of course, these figures can not be compared with what many fashionable slimming diets promise, but no side effects were noticed, and the weight of the participants continued to reduce after the experiment finished.

The well-being of many participants improved significantly, and they:

  • became more active and confident,
  • stopped eating up stress with sweets,
  • gradually developed the habit of eating properly.

Emir Korobi, head of the clinical department of the medical faculty of the University of Paris, found out exactly how Pu-erh tea affects the human body. His experiments showed that with regular consumption of Pu-erh, the level of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood decreases.

The action of Pu-erh tea is comparable to medical drugs that are used to reduce cholesterol in the blood. Antioxidants that are found in this tea in abundance reduce the oxidized form of cholesterol – the so-called “bad cholesterol”, which is the cause of vascular lesions with cholesterol plaques.

The complex of vitamins and microelements that is found in this tea:

  1. accelerates metabolism,
  2. improves digestion,
  3. normalizes fat and carbohydrate metabolism,
  4. stabilizes blood sugar level,
  5. lowers blood pressure,
  6. strengthens muscles and bones,
  7. supports thyroid function,
  8. reduces the risk of cancer.

Theine (the so-called tea caffeine) activates the oxygen exchange, regulates the cerebral circulation, increases the muscle tone and dilates the blood vessels, which induces vigor, energy and inspiration. Really nice bonuses to top off the weight loss.

All of the above applies only to a high-quality product. Unfortunately, the modern tea market is quite rich in Pu-erh teas of dubious quality, which not only does not help to lose weight, but can also harm your health. To find a genuine useful and delicious Pu-erh, you need to make great efforts.

For example, you can check out the assortment of China’s leading tea factories and buy only their products. Of course, there is always a chance to buy a fake (yes, they do forge tea in China!), but with experience you will learn to determine a high-quality product by aroma and flavor.

Good tea has a gentle pleasant aroma with nuances of

  • nuts,
  • bark of trees,
  • chocolate,
  • coffee,
  • meadow grasses,
  • honey,
  • old books from a wooden cupboard.

Every person has his own association. If the tea smells of mildew, soot, or fish – it is a reason to be on the alert. The shape of the compact is not an indicator of the tea quality. Any raw material can be pressed in:

  • disks,
  • mushrooms,
  • bricks,
  • nests,
  • mini-nests.

Keep in mind that many sellers like to talk about the age of the Pu-erh tea, yet this is not an indicator of its quality or some special properties. Everything is determined by the quality of the raw material and storage conditions. As a rule, it is impossible to determine the quality of tea judging by a photo on the site.

Suppose you managed to find a real high-quality Sheng Pu-erh. What to do next and how to lose weight with it? First, you need to have or buy tea utensils to brew it. Ideally, it is a small clay kettle with a volume of 100-200 ml, or gaiwan. French press, and even a mug with a lid, will also do.

A small volume of the vessel is so important for brewing Sheng Pu-erh because these teas are brewed many times – up to 10, and some good specimens remain delicious even after 15 brewings. You can drink 10 cups of Pu-erh only if the cups are small – 30-40 ml

Brewing Pu-erh a smaller number of times means to waste the product – flavoring and aromatizing substances will not have enough time to get into the infusion. Therefore, when you are planning to sit down and have some Pu-erh, make sure that you have half an hour of free time. This is not the tea that you can drink on the run.

Brewing Pu-erh is simple. Find the softest tastiest water. Boil it, pour into a thermos, warm the teapot and cups. With the help of a tea scoop, break off the disk, briquette or nest some tea and put it into the kettle. Cover tea with hot water and immediately drain – you should not drink the first brew.

Again cover the tea with hot water and immediately pour it in the cups – you can start drinking tea. Repeat the brewing until the tea has no more flavor. As a rule, brews no. 2-4 are the strongest, and then the strength of the tea goes down, and you can insist subsequent brewing for longer. Sheng Pu-erh should have a soft, slightly astringent taste. Excessive bitterness means that you put too much tea or brewed it too long.

The same technology is applicable to Shou Pu-erh, as well as to green and white teas. The only difference is that you need less hot water for gentle teas, and the first brew of green and white tea should not be drained. In addition to brewing, you can make your Pu-erh in an ancient way – boiled in a kettle or in a jezve.

Do not expect an immediate effect from the Pu-erh tea. Its effect is accumulated gradually and only with constant use.

Drink properly brewed tea at least once a day, accompany it only with natural sweets, like:

  • honey,
  • dried fruits,
  • nuts.

Little by little, you will notice changes in yourself, and first signs of improvement are as follows:

  1. Cheerfulness will appear,
  2. Work efficiency will increase,
  3. You will find it easier to deal with everyday tasks.

If you did not have enough strength and motivation to exercise before, they will certainly appear after “Pu-erh therapy”.

Secondly, good tea fosters good taste. After a long tea time with a fragrant delicious Pu-erh, you will hardly want to spoil the impression with a mayonnaise salad or butter cake. On a hot summer day, you will have no thoughts of sweet soda or high-calorie ice cream, if you took the chilled green tea with you.

Many tea lovers admit that they completely abandoned fast food, convenience foods and baked goods, and started to cook more on their own. The amazing thing is that homemade cakes and meat dishes do not affect the figure in any way, provided daily tea drinking. By the way, Pu-erh can replace alcohol at friendly parties quite well. It reveals the best sides in people, and conversations with tea drinking always are intensive and full of new ideas.

Thirdly, regular consumption of Pu-erh tea structures our circadian rhythms. In other words, it adjusts the biological clock. Good tea and a hearty breakfast energize well for a long time. Right at lunch time, you will feel the appetite, which you can satisfy with a hearty snack and a new portion of tea.

With this regime, dinner simply can not be hearty. A tube of natural yogurt or vegetables will be just enough. As a result, we do not go to bed with a full stomach, sleep well and wake up ready for a new portion of Pu-erh.

Fourthly, if an unexpected overeating event happens, do not reproach yourself and do not get on a weight loss strict diet. Rather teach yourself to drink good tea. It will correct nutrition mistakes and keep you calm. If you are invited to a barbecue party, do not reject the invitation, fearing of extra calories. Bring the brewed Pu-erh tea with you in a thermos and use it to wash down fatty foods.

Fifthly, it is noted that drinking tea can help you quit smoking without gaining weight.

Like any effective remedy, tea has its own peculiarities of use, and a peculiar safety technique. Under no circumstances should you drink green tea and Pu-erh tea on an empty stomach. If you are going to have breakfast with Pu-erh tea, you simply must have something more than one sandwich. You need a full breakfast.

The active substances of tea stimulate the digestion process, and unpleasant sensations in the stomach and intestines are possible, when there is nothing to digest. You will not boost weight loss by replacing food with tea.

Avoid having your tea time less than 4-5 hours before bedtime. If you already did this thoughtless thing, do not be surprised that you will not be able to fall asleep. Better find something to do for the next 2-3 hours.

Pregnant women need to drink tea with caution. If any, they should have the tea in small amounts and very weakly brewed. Otherwise, extra uterine tonus is possible. Breastfeeding mothers are advised to drink tea with milk, and not very strong, as well.

With a reasonable approach and without fanaticism, you can solve several problems with the help of tea:

  1. lose weight,
  2. get rid of bad habits,
  3. become more active and cheerful.

Drink only the best tea and be healthy!
